With 162 years of print publishing behind it, Railway Gazette International continues to lead the way in providing information to the world railway industry.
Railway Gazette International is written by a team of experienced professional journalists, whose insight and analysis is highly respected within the railway industry. Travelling extensively each year, the team enjoys top-level access to managers and decision-makers around the world. Local correspondents are also on hand to make sure that Railway Gazette International readers are first with the world news every month.
Railway Gazette International traces its history back to May 1 1835, when the first issue of The Railway Magazine appeared at the very dawn of the railway era.
From the 1920s until the 1960s, The Railway Gazette became synonymous with railway developments throughout the world, with close links to the British Empire and other railways founded on British technology and exports. During this time The Railway News and The Railway Engineer were absorbed into the title. The journal's world-wide perspective was underlined by a change of name to Railway Gazette International in October 1970.
In parallel with the development of its magazine portfolio, Railway Gazette also acquired The Directory of Railway Officials and The Railway Yearbook, which were merged to form the Railway Directory & Yearbook - the definitive 'red book' - which is now known by the shorter title Railway Directory.
The latest addition to the print family was launched in 1995. The fortnightly newsletter Rail Privatisation News was designed to provide business information and analysis in the complex and rapidly-developing process of transferring Britain's railways into the private sector. Such was the title's success that it continues to play a role for the post-privatisation railway, which was reflected by a change of name in March 1998 to Rail Business Intelligence.
railwaygazette.com was launched in June 1997, and a CD-ROM edition of Railway Directory first appeared later the same year. The CD was succeeded by railwaydirectory.net in 2001.
The Railway Gazette International Group remains firmly committed to serving the world's railway industry - reporting news, analysing trends, and campaigning for development and investment wherever rail has a role to play. |
